No trip to Los Angeles would be complete without a visit to the beach, so during our 12 hour trip we made sure to visit the nearest one to us, Manhattan Beach Pier in Manhattan Beach, California. Since we didn’t have luggage we just got a ride over in the afternoon. I was honestly looking forward to a little warm weather, but the beach was very cold and windy. Despite the freezing temperatures, beach-goers were still out on the sand with some even daring to swim. Maybe I’m a little spoiled since we live closer to the beach, but it would have had to be a lot warmer in order for me to get near the water, haha.

Old Monterey Inn in Monterey, California

The second part of my little coastal weekend getaway was spent in Monterey, California. Old Monterey Inn was kind enough to host us, and I can’t say enough about our stay there. The tudor-style property is as charming as it looks, built in 1929 and occupied by the first mayor of Monterey. It has since changed hands and after a thoughtful restoration, it opened as a bed & breakfast in 1978.
