Wearing Jasmine Chong

Awhile back I met a wonderful woman via instagram, Jasmine Chong. She was in school for fashion design and we had similar interests, so we meshed well. Fast forward a few years and she’s now an amazing fashion designer who was kind enough to lend me a couple of her stunning gowns for events I was attending. On top of wearing them for the events, I was inspired to take some photos in them during my travels around California.

About Jasmine Chong

Jasmine Chong was born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where she spent her childhood filling up notebooks with sketches of women in dresses. As a little girl, her mother made many of her favorite dresses on a black 1950s Singer sewing machine, taking her on trips to fabric stores – where she was allowed to run her fingers through yards of fabric, eventually choosing one or two she liked that would be transformed into a new dress.

She studied Fashion Design and Fine Art at the prestigious School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Upon graduating with her B.F.A. in Fashion Design from SAIC, the majority of her senior collection was sold. Jasmine acquired valuable industry experience while apprenticing with New York designers Anna Sui, Thakoon, Marchesa, Halston, Tory Burch, and Ann Taylor. Here, she focused on honing her skills in couture sewing techniques, draping, embroidery, and the equally important business of fashion.

Jasmine is also a graduate of Parsons The New School for Design, where she earned a degree in Fashion Business, Marketing and Merchandising. Within a year of graduating from Parsons, her eponymous label was launched in New York Fashion Week, February 2016.

Are there any other up and coming designers I should know about? I’d love for you to share in the comments below.
