Life in Between, December

Candid child portrait in Darth Vader mask

December is usually centered around home for us. We settle in and get festive, from choosing our tree to all the trimmings, holiday parties, & cookies for Santa, and beyond. The weather is very winter-y lately, not something California has been good at, but I’m thankful for all of the water. We’ve spent more time indoors together, and the I’ve had my fair share of Lego sessions that last for hours on end. If we’re being real, I don’t mind it at all, I absolutely loved Legos as a kid and am happy to pass the love down. I’m so glad that I get to spend time playing with my little ones. I think it’s so important for parents to still make that connection, and to allow themselves to fully dive in to their child’s world.

For Christmas day we usually take time to ourselves as a family. We have a slow morning opening gifts, eating breakfast, and just enjoying each other’s company. Søren was completely in love with his kitchen from Santa (a DIY Land of Nod kitchen hack, happy to share details if there’s interest!), and Aiden has been making new levels for Mario. On Christmas day we also celebrate my husband’s birthday. I decided this year to start making him a cake every year and while the kids were napping when I snuck this one by, I have a feeling that they will be more involved in future years. I used a simple box mix (I just discovered Miss Jones Baking. It’s organic & delicious!) and I didn’t have any round cake pans so I improvised with a square Pyrex container. While it wasn’t what I originally envisioned, it did the job well.

Life in Between, November 2015

Fillmore, San Francisco, California

Our November was chaotic at best. It always is.

I had a couple of trips to San Francisco for events. The first was Friendsgiving at Brit + Co. headquarters, and the other was a Polyvore meetup with Rebecca Minkoff. I’m not sure if you can tell by the look on my face, but I was way excited. My older son, Aiden, turned 12 and I hosted a movie night party for him and a few friends. We took a short trip to Truckee for another friendsgiving hosted by my friend Reichel, and then spent actual Thanksgiving with family.

Life in Between, October 2015

White Pumpkins for Fall

Our October Life In Between was filled with lots of action. At the start of the Month I came back from my trip to Grand Cayman, and we immediately went to Bean Hollow State Beach the next day. We spent some time at my Grandma’s house in the country (Central Valley) and played in the fall wildflowers.

The end of the month was jam packed with a trip to Turks & Caicos, a stop in Seattle, and prepping and enjoying the Halloween holiday.
