It’s been a couple of years since I’ve done a Day In The Life post, so I thought I’d do one for you today. The day shown in these photos was a Monday, as in yesterday. Monday’s are always a slow day for me, time taken to slow down from the weekend and to refocus on work and school. I work from home, so my schedule is not set in stone, and while I have made lots of progress in my work/life balance, I still see room for improvement. I did you a favor and didn’t take 3000 photos of my computer. A typical weekday for me looks like this:
08:00A — Wake up, take Aiden to school. Søren stays home with Steve.
08:45A — Coffee. Cook eggsadillas for Søren and I, respond to e-mails/social while he plays.
10:00A — Get ready for the day, wishbone necklace c/o Primlark. Package a gift for one of my photography clients.
12:00P — Picnic lunch and sandbox time. I still need to finish painting the sandbox.
01:30P — Come back in, play or do workbooks (I work with Søren every other day).
03:00P — Pick up Aiden. Today Steve was home while Søren napped, so Aiden and I got groceries.
04:00P — Aiden’s snack and homework. I help Aiden with homework and get work done while Søren finishes his nap.
05:00P — Søren wakes up and I start dinner. He and Aiden play together until dinner.
07:00P — Bedtime routine. Sometimes we also play games. Tonight they read about Steve’s business, Hovership, in Make Magazine. I’m super proud!
08:00P — Bed time for the boys. Exercise and work time for me!
01:00A — Bed time for me. I’m still working on this work/sleep balance thing.
Our weekday schedule is pretty rigid, as Aiden needs structure to do better in school, and Søren lets me get more work done during the day when he knows what to expect from our schedule. Sometimes I have meetings for work that we adjust for, and I always, always try to plan phone calls during nap time. During weekends we are on the go a lot but try to still stick to the same meal and nap schedule.
