DIY Catapult, Mark I and Mark II Plans

For some reason, a random memory of building a small DIY catapult when I was a little boy popped into my head. It inspired me to relive this memory and make one with Aiden. We started out by making a sketch of what this contraption would look like and what supplies we would need.

We went to home depot and found all the supplies we needed and a few others that I thought would help improve our design. I built it with wooden dowels that were lashed together with twine. A pulley was used to pull the arm back and a small spring is what created all the tension. When it was done and we started playing with it, I quickly realized this was ‘Mark I’ and that I would need to rebuild it with stronger materials.

Now that the Mark II version of it is complete and won’t collapse from being used, Aiden couldn’t be happier. It has been raining all today so I let him use it indoors with a few soft dog toys.

  1. Can it get any more fun? Really you are a little boy’s dream come true!

P.S. Giant marshmallows work well too, we’ve used them indoors with a slingshot.

  2. What a crack up! You are soooo creative! I’ll bet Aiden just loves the time he gets to spend with you doing this stuff! And nice use of the bar-bells!
