Funny story about Ellie, a.k.a. Earthquake Cat last night:
Last night at about 3AM we’re sleeping and we hear, “Meow, meow, meow.” and scratch, scratch, scratch at our bedroom door. We usually keep it closed so that she’ll let us sleep through the night without trying to use us as her personal human pillow. I got up an checked her food dish, she had food. I gave her more anyway, just in case that’s why she was going nuts. Checked all the windows, made sure there were no other cats or squirrels driving her crazy too. Went back to bed and scratch, scratch, scratch again at the door. Got up and went to get the spray bottle (our disciplinary weapon for the animals), then quietly waited for her to scratch again. A couple seconds later, scratch, scratch, scratch, spray. It got her to stop but this morning I started thinking… Is this a coincidence? 1.5 Magnitude earthquake at 3:15AM.
Again at 6:15AM when I was at the shower, Steve said that she was meowing and scratching at the door. And again at 6:25AM when I was blow drying my hair. Coincidence again? 1.2 Magnitude earthquake at 6:41AM.
Though these were very miniscual earthquakes, I’ve always heard that animals have a sort of “sixth sense” about natural disasters and weather and such, but I didn’t think that they’d try to wake you up in the middle of the night over it. Earthquake Cat, please let me sleep unless it’s going to be “the big one”.
