Life in Between, August

Life in Between, August 2015

August felt like August this year. It’s been hot and sticky, so much so that we finally caved and put a few inches of water in our stock tank pool. We’ve kept it put up because the drought in California is frightening and we try to use as little water as possible. I even purchased this shower head to be able to pause the shower while I’m washing my hair and the like. Our house was built in 1956 without air conditioning, and has huge walls of glass on most sides so when the days get above 90F, we have to cool off somehow.

In the middle of August I got a little crazy and took the boys to the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk all by myself. I was especially worried about Søren because not only is he 3, he’s like a tiny human tornado. But I’m happy to report that both boys listened very well and we had a wonderful time. I can’t wait to share it with you. Aiden started school the following Monday and he’s settled in nicely. I’m so proud of how well he handled the transition from one class to seven, but I still can’t believe he’s in middle school already! Søren misses his big brother, but has started napping again which gives me a little mid-day breather that I’m happy about. He’s also waking up earlier now which doesn’t excite me as much.

At the end of the month I attended my cousin’s wedding in Lake Tahoe. The trip was an absolutely dreamy ceremony and reception, followed by a couple of relaxing days on the lake with close family. I missed my family at home quite a bit towards the end, but I’m getting better at taking the “mommy breaks” that help to bring me back more refreshed than when I left.
