Maker Faire Bay Area 2016

Maker Faire in San Francisco, California

Remember that time we went to a magical place called Maker Faire? It hasn’t been that long, but it has been a year and we’re so excited to say that we attended again this year. It was my husband’s 5th time, Aiden’s 4th, and Søren and I’s 2nd. We’re yuggeeeeee fans of Maker Faire, and rightfully so, it’s known as the biggest show and tell on Earth. I’ve shared some of our favorite Maker Faire moments below, from #robotdanceparty to drone racing and beyond!

#robotdanceparty (Above) is one of our very favorites, he’s just so adorable and fun. Søren wants to dress up like this for Halloween this year, ha.

Our other favorite area always seems to be the dark room. It’s filled with tons of ideas that include mind-boggling light displays. I love the pixel-looking light grid the best, but the light-up pressure-sensitive floor was a close second. In the photo above, Søren is controlling the lights with the movement of his arms, so cool!

We did a lot of walking around and looking at different ideas, inventions, and art pieces. The gigantic metal squid below had cranks set up around it to make different pieces (like the arms) move.

A visit to Maker Faire wouldn’t be complete without a stop at the drone race track, and the battleship arena.

Instead of cupcake cars, this year I found an ice cream car, yassssssss. Inside these is usually a tricycle or motorized scooter of sorts to make it easy to move and navigate through crowds.

Søren rode around on a scooter that works like a giant sized spirograph using liquid chalk.

We watched a live show that worked using chain reactions and was based on the game Mouse Trap.Maker Faire in San Francisco, California

There were giant explosions, and ridiculous bikes (yeah, that’s my husband…). And more giant explosions, and …Maker Faire in San Francisco, California

Aiden after the eepybird Mentos & Coke show, it gets better every year.

That’s it for our Maker Faire 2016 experience, it was wonderful as always. I love how every year the innovations change in ways I can’t even think to predict. Some of the STEAM toys available for kids are getting so advanced, my kids were ogling all of them.

A huge thanks to Maker Faire for hosting us and allowing me to cover the event. To find one in your area, visit their website!
