How to Pack Beauty Goodies

Travel Light: How to pack your beauty goodies, in a carry-on. Travel Light: How to pack your beauty goodies, in a carry-on.

One of my biggest problems when I travel light, is that I also have to include all of my extras like liquids, tools, and beauty products. You’d be amazed at how much space they take up in a suitcase, but if you plan ahead you can minimize their impact on your space. Today I’m sharing how exactly I pack my beauty goodies so they are organized and take up a little less space so I have room for more items that count (like shoes, ha!).

Makeup
Usually when I travel I try to bring as little makeup as possible. A long time ago I came across a company called Stowaway Cosmetics that makes perfect travel sized makeup, and was recently reminded of it by my friend Nancy. Their basics kit comes with just the basics in all the right sizes. I’ve never had a problem with having liquid makeup outside of my liquids bag, I just put it on the belt together and they can see that it’s makeup.

Stowaway Basics Kit – Includes Lip & cheek rouge, Creaseless concealer, Creme lipstick, Effortless eyeliner in Spice, Defined lash mascara, Radiant complexion beauty balm, Tinted lip gloss,
Japonesque Eyelash Curler – I am not capable of applying makeup without curling my lashes, so this comes with me too. As does my beauty blender.
Bare Minerals Ready Touch Up Veil – This stuff works great for keeping your face non-oily, and if your hair is light enough as a dry shampoo in a pinch.
Bare Minerals Ready Eyeshadow – This color goes very well on me, and I love how blendable it is for any type of look.

Liquids
Liquids have always been a pain-point for me, especially with how long my hair is. Although the toiletries where I stay are not usually bad, my hair is finicky so I have to pack my own Shampoo, conditioner, and leave-in conditioner. I also can’t live without my dry shampoo so if it’s only a 2-3 day trip, I will skip on the shampoo/conditioner and only bring dry shampoo. I try to find products in solid form too, Lush makes quite a few. I love this bag (℅) from Truffle because not only is it stylish, it’s TSA approved quart size for placing liquids in. Remember, you are only allowed up to 3.4oz of liquid in a single container.

Drybar Detox Dry Shampoo – I can’t live without this. I wash my hair 1-2x weekly and this gets me in between without grease whether I’m at home or on the go. They also make a darker color for brunettes, but be sure to get the travel-friendly size.
Aesop Parsley Seed Eye Cream – A must for helping tired eyes after a flight.
Aesop Sage & Zinc Facial Moisturizer with SPF – Another staple for me for helping to keep my skin taken care of, and I love that it is SPF 15 to help out a little with sun exposure.
Soma Blonde Silver Hair Shampoo – Packaged in this 2oz gotoob, I use this shampoo regularly, so I can’t leave home without it.
Soma Colour Protect Conditioner – Packaged in a 3oz gotoob (need more than shampoo), my hair acts up if I don’t follow-up with a nice conditioner.
Soma Leave-In Conditioner – I have a small travel bottle that I refill from my larger bottle for on-the-go moments.

Tools
Ahh, tools! This category I admit is not my favorite, and I try to bring as few as possible, but sometimes you’ve gotta do what you’ve gotta do. I try to find smaller or multipurpose tools to bring along, like a folding hair dryer. Every little bit of space counts. I love the larger clarity clutch that Truffle sent over to me to keep all of it together. I’d also love to pick up one of their document cases to keep my notebook and paperwork I travel with in.

T3 Featherweight Compact Folding Dryer (℅) – This little blow dryer packs a punch, but folds to a small and travel friendly size. I took it to Iceland with me, where quite a few of the places we stayed didn’t offer hair dryers. They also offer a matching mini hair straightener if you prefer to have one of those too.
Tangle Teezer – This badboy can do anything from detangling my hair post-shower, to helping keep a rough dry blowout straight in between passes.
Basic Comb – I can’t go anywhere without a basic wide-toothed comb. I love my tangle teezer, but sometimes a girl just needs some comb action.
Mini Lint Roller – I live in black and have long blonde hair, and that wouldn’t be possible without some sort of hair and lint roller nearby at all times. I should add that I only use this mini size for travel, we have larger ones at home.
Bare Minerals Mini Brush Set – I love a smaller size brushes for travel because they take up less space. Sometimes I only bring a few brushes with me instead of the whole set.
Sonicare Toothbrush
– I use a Sonicare and won’t scrimp on it for travel (not pictured).
Herban Essentials Lemon Towelettes – I use these any time I need to clean my hands, or wipe down the tray table or plane seat. With so many germs circulating in public spaces, it’s always helpful to have a couple of these on hand.
Truffle Large Clarity Clutch (℅) – I love the size of this, and that it is clear so you can see exactly what you put inside.

Hi Jessica,

Like yourself, I’m always on the go traveling and love ideas to reduce the size and weight of my bags. As a result, I love the Stowaway Cosmetic kits. I’m a big fan of Bare Minerials also. I appreciate the tip on the featherweight dryer. I’m going to check that one out.

I really like your shoppable pictures at the bottom of the post. Nice, easy touch.

Ooooh loving all of your goodies, and luckily I don’t take many tools with me. My problem IS the makeup because I like all the gigantic palettes with all the highlighters 😉 I just need a little bit of it all because WHO KNOWS. It could be a highlighting EMERGENCY! Hahaha so ridiculous. Love this post! xx Adaleta Avdic

I totally understand your dilemma, I used to like to bring lots of colors but I really don’t wear much anymore, I prefer to just stick to naturals now.

I used to use one giant toiletry case but quickly realized that multiple smaller pouches work much better for grouping things together and packing a smaller suitcase. I’ve also paired down what I bring with me as so much of what I was hauling around I never use! I travel everywhere with a microfiber hair towel! That’s one thing I’d add.

I love the microfiber towels also. I’ve learned to scale down the makeup I’m taking while traveling. Now I have to teach my teenage daughter to do the same. On a recent trip, her suitcase out weighed my combined bag with my husband

Yessss, great tip! I don’t know that I would personally add a hair towel since I don’t wash mine that often, but we did pack some very small ones for Iceland which came in handy. 🙂
