The Family Dinner

Lemongrass turkey burger with creamy asian slaw and sesame-broccoli salad.
Even though we’re on the go often, we always try to have dinner together as a family. Recently I’ve tried to focus more on less dining out and more on making meal plans ahead of time. Last weekend I partnered with Blue Apron to try out their meal delivery service. Our box arrived on Friday while we were out. Since the boxes are shipped refrigerated, it was still nice and cold when we came home.

I opened the box to find ingredients for two gourmet meals which included Lemongrass Turkey Burgers with Creamy Asian Slaw and Sesame Broccoli Salad, and Roasted Beef with Smashed Potatoes, Roasted Root Vegetables, and gravy. They have a whole recipe section on their site, and a few recipes I’m dying to try out some of the recipes, especially the Chicken Charlemagne, Sloppy Joes, and Blackened Chile-Dusted Chicken. You can view all of their recipes here.

Preparing the actual meal was a lot easier than I expected. Most of the ingredients were pre-measured, so I didn’t have to waste a lot of time checking quantity. All of the meals are also designed to take 40 minutes or less, and contain 500-700 calories. Out of the two meals, I don’t know if I could pick a favorite. I have to admit that I have never cooked with lemongrass before so prepping it was a new experience for me. Aiden really loved asking about what the ingredients were, and the slaw was his favorite. Most of the recipes use basic kitchen equipment, but if you find yourself short, they have a full market stocked with gourmet supplies.

The meals that we received were from the Family Dinner Plan (4 people, 2 meals, 8 servings total, ), but they also offer a smaller plan for just two people. The food was surprisingly delicious and it saved me a trip to the grocery store with both kids in tow. I really enjoyed that it introduced us to ingredients that I wouldn’t normally cook with. I used to receive a farm box every week and ended up canceling it because I couldn’t include all of the different foods into our meal plan. The Blue Apron box didn’t have left-over ingredients to deal with, and I didn’t have to figure out how to serve other foods.

Blue Apron delivers to most of the United States, and if you are unsure you can check your availability online. They have graciously offered a discount of two free meals off your first order for the first 25 Team Wiking readers. Just click here!

Such healthy great quality meals. I love the burger photos, the pics look straight out of a magazine.

Hmm mmm! Looks yummy! =P

Hi Jessica,

Wow these look so yummy! I know for me, I end up getting in the same rotation of meals I prepare so I appreciate that you linked the other recipes! I’ve tried Plated before but have yet to Blue Apron…I guess I’ve gotta give it a go!

I love that part, I always end up making the same meals too.
