Lunch was a much needed break after our glacier walkabout. We warmed up and headed back out into misty Juneau, destined for Mount Roberts Tramway.
Once everyone was inside the gondola it ascended up the mountain to it’s final elevation, 1,800 feet. At the top we explored the gift shop, enjoyed the view, and met a bald eagle named Lady Baltimore. Then despite intermittent showers and against our better judgement, went for a hike up the mountainside, stroller and all. The dirt trails were packed tightly and decently sized. Tree roots overpowered the smooth trails in some parts but navigating with the stroller wasn’t difficult. Small puddles gathered but we pressed on. The rain stopped for a moment and allowed us to take in the panoramic view. Steve decided to fly his copter, so he hiked on. We joined him until the rain started again and the boys and I took the tram back down.
Søren fell asleep so Aiden and I walked the streets of Juneau. We found a nice little boutique featuring local artists and purchased a few souvenirs. We pressed onward, enjoying the sights. A raven soared above us and we passed by the mural depicting creation. The story goes that a Raven was hungry, so it opened up a clam and out came man. The skies opened up and we hurried back to the ship. A quick tender in and we settled in for the night.
Our ship pulled anchor and headed out, escorted by the Coast Guard and Alaskan liquid sunshine. The sun began to set and we crossed under a double rainbow. Am I dreaming? With the close of the day the mountains grew taller, a glimpse of adventures to come.
