Lotusland was one of my most anticipated stops during my trip to Santa Barbara, and definitely one of my favorite activities. I thought the Botanical Gardens in Mendocino were stunning, but this took it to another level. Tours are given by reservation only, so it felt extra special to be able to view the gardens. I always love when gardens partner with artists to display art amongst the foliage, and Lotusland was no exception. They are featuring an exhibit called “FLOCK: birds on the brink” from February 28 to May 23rd. It’s curated by Nancy Gifford and features 35 international artists.

Lotusland, more formally known as Ganna Walska Lotusland is a 37 acre botanical garden purchased by Madame Ganna Walska in 1941. She spent the next 43 years of her life curating the gardens, experimenting with bold forms and unusual color combinations. She was a huge fan of mass planting methods, which means planting a single type of plant over one large area. After Madame Ganna Walska’s death in 1984, Lotusland became a nonprofit botanic garden and opened to the public in 1993. To learn how you can schedule a tour or help support the gardens, please visit their website at www.lotusland.org.

This trip to Santa Barbara, including this activity were part of an invitation I received from Visit Santa Barbara to learn more about the arts and culture in Santa Barbara. While this trip, and post were sponsored, all words and photos are my own.

  7. First off, you’re adorable and I’m jealous of your long hair. (I cut all of mine off like a year ago and while I love my short hair I always become envious when I see long hair). This post just makes me want to throw on my sneakers and go on a hike! I live in Florida on the beach so whenever I see anything other than white sand (which is like everywhere others live, ha) I immediately want to travel there and see how others live and explore their surroundings!

  8. These pictures are breathtaking! I love the round cactus. And, are those lemons? So pretty.
