A few years back, I posted a couple of high fashion Halloween costumes (Witch & Aphrodite). When I say high fashion I simply mean that they were more style-oriented instead of costume-oriented, something not as practical but very fashionable for Halloween. I featured items that are not particularly my style anymore, but my big takeaway was that there is something special to be said for Halloween costumes from your current closet. Most importantly, when the holiday is over the items go back to their everyday wear without causing additional waste or costing you extra money.
The Hippie
H&M A-Line Dress, Berry Metallic Floral Headband Wrap, Linda Farrow Round Frame Sunglasses, Stuart Weitzman Lowland Boots, Diane Von Furstenberg Voyage Boho Bag
With Fall’s current trends of bell sleeves and thigh high boots, this costume should be easy to replicate.
The Lumberjack
Acne Studios Beanie, T by Alexander Wang Plaid Gauze Wrap Shirt, Momocreatura Axe Earrings, Acne Studios Skin5 Mid-Rise Jeans, Ilse Jacobsen Rub2 Boots
A stylish and easy take on the classic lumberjack look. The boots are definitely my favorite part.
Bad Sandy from Grease
Karla Colletto Wrapping Cutout Swimsuit, J.Crew Leather Biker Jacket, Helmut Lang Stretch Leather Leggings, Vanessa Seward Chypre leather belt, Jimmy Choo Romy Suede Pumps
I think as soon as leggings came back, this became a go-to for an easy Halloween costume. I would personally nix the red heels, but if you own some anyway, why not go for it?
Boat Captain
Saint James for J.Crew Slouchy Striped Shirt, Étoile Isabel Marant Evie Hat, Miguelina Dana White Linen Culottes, Dogeared Friendship Anchor Necklace, Sperry Women’s A/O Boat Shoes
How easy is this? The anchor piece and boat shoes are a nice nod to looking nautical enough to pull it off. Some red lipstick might give it a little oomph.
Mary Poppins
Maison Michele Melanie Boater, Totes Luggage Bubble Umbrella, H&M Wool-Blend Coat, H&M Knee Length Dress, Treasure & Bond Winsor Block Heel Booots, Louis Vuitton Weekender
An updated version of this classic movie character, using items that work well with a day-to-day Fall wardrobe.
Mime
Gucci Wool-Felt Beret, H&M Stripe Jersey Top, Mac Ruby Woo Red Lipstick, Short Leather Gloves, Current / Elliot High Waisted Stiletto Skinny Pants, Michael Michael Kors Jensen Oxfords
This costume would be even better with suspenders, but works fine without. I don’t own any and don’t know any female that wears them on a regular basis, so I thought they weren’t a necessity for this look.
The Goddess Venus
Iam by Ileana Makri Pipe Necklace, Nikiya Cotton Maxi Dress, Rosantica Bismark Gold Headband, Melissa Joy Manning Iolite Earrings, Ancient Greek Eleftheria Sandals
I really, really, love the look of this costume, it’s so easy and the dress is absolutely stunning. I’d wear every single one of these pieces individually as well.
Have you ever created a Halloween costume from your closet? I’d love to hear about it!
