Ever since I cleaned out my closet, I’ve been very hesitant to add any new items to it. I’m back into the mindset that my closet is complete and if I don’t need anything new, I won’t buy it. However, sometimes something comes along that I do love so much, and I end up making a purchase.
I’ve always had a thing for black jumpsuits, so awhile back when Akin & Co. reached out with the generous offer of gifting something, this jumpsuit was my first choice. It’s made from 100% silk that drapes effortlessly, and I can really see it transitioning well across all seasons and dress codes. In the Spring I’m wearing it with a light coat and split loafers, but in the Summer I can’t wait to pair it with a simple pair of sandals. For fancier affairs, I can pair it with a nice pair of heels and know that it will dress up well.
Today I’m sharing five of my Spring must-haves with you. I feel a lot of them are effortless, season-less, and timeless, which to me is the best kind of combination. Often times it can be hard to be bombarded with new items and sales for the new season, but keeping your current wardrobe in mind and your actual needs will help you curb your consumerism. I’ve always loved the idea of buying fewer, but better items.
Here are a few simple questions I ask myself before making the splurge:
Is it timeless?
Is it season-less?
Does it dress up or down?
Is it ethical? Eco-friendly?
Is it made from good fabrics?
The answers don’t always influence my purchasing decision, but they sure help.
1. Black & White Striped Shirt
I just love pairing a slightly oversized shirt with a pair of jeans. The shirt adds a little polish, but when paired with more casual pieces it brings such an easy and chic feeling to the outfit. The one above from Everlane is hanging in my closet and I love the way it fits. The shirt is silky and oversized, but not too much so.
2. Flowy Black Jumpsuit
Obviously my first pick is this one from Rujuta Sheth, but these others all have nice lines too. Jumpers have always been a hit for me and these flowy ones I feel can transition especially well from casual to more formal affairs.
3. Gray Sweatshirt
I picked a gray sweatshirt up while in Paris and it’s been one of my go-to items lately for Spring. I can’t find a link to it on their website, but it’s from COS, and this one from Everlane is pretty similar (plus, it’s choose your own price!). I pair it with black denim or leggings and some athletic shoes. It also goes well with some lighter denim jeans and the right pair of slides. Overall it brings a comfy-casual look to an outfit.
4. Black Slip Dress
If jumpsuits aren’t your thing, you could always go straight for a black slip dress. I’m in love with this one from Cuyana. I love to pair it with a sweater on cooler days, and even add leggings when I travel. I also love to wear it with a leather jacket to add a little edge. It is really versatile, travels well, and I can’t wait to wear it more in the Summer months as well.
5. White Sneakers
Last year I invested in a pair of white sneakers and they’ve had more wear on them than I thought they would. I wasn’t always a sneaker wearing type, but these may have changed my mind. I wore them all over Paris for nearly 5 days straight. With everything lightening up for Spring, I may just need to invest in more white sneakers, ha.
