Growing Up

Søren is 20 months old now. For anyone not counting in months, that means that he’s closer to the big two than he is one. It hasn’t really sunk in yet that he’s not a baby. He’s still very much my baby but lately he has grown in ways that make it very hard to deny that he is a toddler. Last month we started to transition him from his mini crib to a big boy bed. We put a twin mattress on the floor at the foot of our bed and had him sleep there for around a week. It worked out well, except when I needed to shower during the day and I had to bring his mini crib back out. For anyone who read our house tour and interview on Design Mom’s blog, we finally gave in and traded bedrooms with the boys. It’s been wonderful. I’m still in the process of adjusting the decor in both of the rooms, but I’ll share an updated house tour once I do.

There isn’t a day that goes by that he doesn’t surprise us with something new. He has four new teeth making their way into his mouth right now, and every day he says at least 2-3 new words. His vocabulary is growing quickly and he absorbs everything like a sponge. He helps clear the table when he’s done eating, says, “peez” (please), helps with laundry, loves to read books, give hugs, walk the dogs, and just started to sing songs this week. His favorites are Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star, and the ABCs. He spends the day playing and exploring, but every few minutes he makes his way back to me for a reassuring and heart-warming snuggle.

I’m still clinging so hard to his beautiful baby mullet and will take any snuggles I can get until he pushes me away. Isn’t it funny how time flies?
