I’ve always heard of Redondo Beach in Southern California, but never Northern. Awhile back my husband turned me on to this small and cliffy beach just south of Half Moon Bay, coincidentally named Redondo Beach. To get to it you will need to turn off of Highway 1 onto Redondo Beach Road (surprise!). At the end of the road you’ll find an unofficial dirt parking lot full of extremely large potholes and dips. You can either pull off to the side to enjoy a beautiful sunset, or park and explore a bit. If you walk further south on the trail, beach access is easier but it may be harder to bring much with you. The cliffs give way to a long beach and ocean below.
During my last trip to Half Moon Bay, we made a spur of the moment decision to watch the sunset before dinner and Redondo Beach was the perfect location for that. I just hate to visit a beach town during a trip and not enjoy the sunset from the sand. I even started our drive to dinner and ended up turning around to watch the sunset. I just couldn’t resist the urge. I must not be alone because there was even someone paragliding with a motor (I still think this is crazy.) along the coastline.
Where is your favorite place to watch the sunset?
