For the last few Sundays, we’ve started a tradition to spend them as exclusively family time. Weekend time is usually family time anyway, but we’ve made it a point to get out of the house too. Whether it’s a picnic, a bike ride, or a beach trip. Last week we visited Team Beach, and today I’m sharing a little trip we took to Mitchell’s Cove Beach in Santa Cruz, California. It’s a small cove on the west side that is dog-friendly and nearly disappears during high tide.

The tide was on it’s way out when we arrived, so we set ourselves up against the rocks on the far side of the beach. The sun was warm and welcoming, and tidepools full of beach life were scattered about the rocks in front of the breaks. There was a waterfall from storm water that ran into the ocean, and the surf must have been good because there were quite a few surfers out too.

Our usual routine is to eat lunch as soon as we arrive (less sand on little hands), then enjoy the rest of our day. The boys had a great time playing in all of the little areas, and later in the afternoon headed over to where the beach was larger. Søren ended up riding home without clothes because all of his were soaking wet and covered with sand. Who knew that February could make such a great beach month?
