Printable Concrete Gems

Do you ever see those adorable tutorials for making your own concrete gems? I always get overwhelmed by the thought of working with concrete and give up before I start. Today’s printable is a nice workaround to them, and it’s light as a feather (piece of paper)!

Quite some time ago I partnered with Sprout by HP to create festive photo overlays, and gift tags. We’ve kept the Sprout in Aiden’s room and he has enjoyed it over the last year. The intuitive design is such a natural way for him to get hands-on with his class assignments and other learning tools. The other day I peeked in and he was scanning toys to make a stop motion movie. They’ve freshly released a new 3D Design update and 3D Scanner, so when HP reached out to partner again with our Sprout, I couldn’t say no. The technology behind 3D scanning and 3D printing is so new and advancing at a rapid pace, it’s exciting to be able to test it out and share the experience with others.

Using the 3d scanner on the Sprout is very easy, you simply follow along with the on-screen directions. It scans the image, and then allows you to reposition it and to additional scans to improve the quality. Once you’ve completed your scan, you can then modify colors, textures, and even export it to Adobe Illustrator as a 2D object, or the Autodesk Sketchbook app to enhance your scan. It even allows you to add text! I’ve already started to bug Steve to use his 3D Printer so I can play with this feature. I exported my scan from different angles as 2D images, then created printable files so that they could be printed and shared with you. I absolutely love the minimal look and feel of them.
