Travel Light: Cool Summer Camping

Every year we go camping in Mendocino County, California. It’s one of my favorite trips because the places we go don’t really have cell signal and it feels so nice to unplug and relax. I don’t think I’ve ever shared a travel light packing list for a camping trip. This list is perfect if you want to step it up from camping in the same pair of leggings everyday, though I fully admit that I did pack one pair to sleep in and ended up wearing them for a day. Today I’m sharing with you my travel light packing list for camping in the cool summer California coastal weather.

To pack successfully for a cool weather camping trip on the California coast, you’ll need to wear layers. The temperature doesn’t fluctuate much but the humidity does and sometimes that makes all the difference. 55℉ hits much different at 99% humidity than it does at 20% humidity. The temperatures during my trip ranged from 52℉ to 65℉, sunny to foggy and back again. If it’s going to be pretty cold, one of my favorite add-ons while packing for a camping trip is wool or cashmere socks to sleep in.

As you can see, I packed a little differently than in this post since I don’t own a couple of these items. Instead of a cardigan I took a half zip sweater, and I really need to have my ribbed tank dress hemmed by about 6″ (short girl life!). I packed these leggings to sleep in with the waffle henley and since it was foggy (and I was being too lazy to change), I wore them one day.
