While we only have a couple of solid travel plans for this year, I’ve been planning (dreaming) away in my head about places we’d love to explore. This year’s travel wishlist is all over the place, from Mojave to Finland. I keep finding that I’m in love with opposites, the desert and the ocean, or somewhere tropical and someplace cold.
Central California Coastline (Big Sur)
Though I’ve driven it more times than I can count on my hands, I haven’t been back to stay overnight since my childhood. We got married in Carmel Highlands, which is the start of the Central California coastline, but it’s just not quite the same. I’d love to stay at Treebones Resort (they have human nests!) or Ventana Inn, they’re both dreamy.
New York, New York
I haven’t been to the big apple since 2002, I can’t believe it’s been nearly 14 years! My husband got to go awhile back for work and I have to admit I was a little jealous. I’ve been dying to head to New York Fashion Week just once in my life, and this year my friend, Jasmine Chong, is debuting her collection, so what better time than now?
Mojave Desert, California
I visited my brother when he was stationed here, and we got a little peek when we drove through on the way to and from Palm Springs, but I really wanted to see more of the desert. The Joshua Trees have always intrigued me, and I want the boys to experience more of the desert since I spent a lot of time traveling through it when I was growing up (More about that here).
Moab, Utah
The red rocks and beautiful shapes among the expansive sky gets me every time. I’ve never spent a good amount of time in this area, so I’d love to visit around one of our trips to Salt Lake City this year.
Maldives
This really needs no explanation, but that turquoise water and the never-ending white sand beaches are dreamy.
Iceland
Another no-brainer. I’ve yet to see a photo from this island that doesn’t make my heart skip a beat.
Faroe Islands
These are such a close second to Iceland for me, it’s not even funny. Not only would we layover in Copenhagen (Be still, my heart.), but these islands are stunning. Their shapes protrude from the ocean in the most commanding way.
Newfoundland, Canada
My good friend, Nancy, was born and raised here and between her photos and others I’ve seen, it’s definitely somewhere I’d love to visit. Plus, isn’t Fogo Island Inn so cool looking?
Alberta, Canada
Another shout out to Canada! I’ve been quite a few places there as a child, but I’d love to explore the glowing glacier-melt lakes and take in more of the beauty with my little fam.
Finnish Lapland in Winter
This place looks like magic in the winter. The way the snow piles around the trees, Reindeer (!!!), and bragging rights (I know, immature.) to have visited the Arctic Circle just call my name.
This year’s travel in the works:
Las Vegas, Nevada, January
My husband just returned from a more scenic trip to Las Vegas for work.
Salt Lake City, January
I’m speaking at Alt Summit next week so I’ll be in town on my own for lots of work & play.
Iceland, July
We really, really, want to make it to Iceland or the Faroe Islands this year. If that doesn’t happen I’ll settle for either of the Canadian locations above (Sorry, Canada!).
Salt Lake City, June
We’re headed to visit with family and partake in a family camp activity. Should be fun!
Hawaii, October
Going to the island of Oahu for my husband’s work.
We have some other trips in the works as well but I don’t want to jinx the, so I’ll share at a later time.
Do you have any special places you’d love to visit this year? I’d love to hear!
All images in this post are stock. Obviously I haven’t been able to take photos like this in these places, which is why I want to go there!
