Mecca Hills Painted Canyon Ladder Hike near Palm Springs and Coachella Valley, California

After attending Alt Summit, my friend Sally and I spent an extra day in the Palm Springs area. One of our major bucket-list items was to do the Ladder Canyon hike at Mecca Hills Recreation Area. It was quite a drive from our hotel in Palm Springs, estimated around 40 minutes. The drive went by quickly and we soon found ourselves driving for miles on an unpaved desert road. Once we arrived, we headed off into the canyon, only to figure out that we went into the ropes canyon instead of the ladders.

Last week was one full of sunshine and learning, spent at Alt Summit in Palm Springs, California. After the conference, my friend Sally and I decided to stay at V Palm Springs for a little extra R&R. We spent the day Friday hiking in the Mecca Hills area, and enjoying a delicious dinner at Workshop. After checking out on Saturday we grabbed some goodies to bring home with us from the Art Museum of Architecture and Design (heaven!).

Yosemite National Park in the Winter

At the tail end of last year we finally managed to make a trip to Yosemite National Park. We live just a few hours away, but for some reason it’s never high on our priority list. The weather had just left us with a dusting of snow, and although there were lots of signs that mentioned chains required, we did not see a single bit of snow until we were well into Yosemite Valley. It was almost as if someone flipped a switch, and we went from dry and snowless to a Winter wonderland. My car is all-wheel drive, so I did not have to chain, but I can see how others might have needed to. Some of the parking areas were icy in places, and our first stop was no exception.
